Megalithic Burials Reveal Close Family Relationships In Neolithic Europe

Relatively little is known about the tribes of Neolithic farmers who, in the Stone Age, migrated from the Fertile Crescent to settle in Old Blighty and northwestern Europe. One thing we do know – they liked to build great big stone monuments (or megaliths), many of which are still scattered across the continent today.  Writing in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, an international team of researchers led by Uppsala University, Sweden, studied human remains buried under five megalithic tombs standing in Ireland, Scotland, and Sweden. Using radiocarbon dating and genome sequencing, they discovered kin relationships among the buried, which could be traced for more than 10 generations. This, they say, suggests the megaliths served as graves for certain kindred groups …

Marianne Williamson: America is becoming an aristocracy

(CNN)During my 35-year career working with individuals and groups going through traumatic experiences, I have helped people navigate the consequences of an irresponsible political establishment. As a result, I have strong ideas about some of the things that have gone wrong in America and how to help us heal. We need to remind ourselves that economic injustice is a moral transgression. Neglecting the medical, educational and social needs of millions of people so that a few can swell their bank accounts is a moral transgression. And until we bring our political policies back into alignment with our moral core, then nothing will fundamentally heal this country. The political establishment has had 40 years to correct itself. And so, it is …

Brexit: Corbyn told to back new EU referendum or lose millions of supporters

A generation of young people could desert the party, says Richard Corbett, leader of Labour MEPs Jeremy Corbyn has been warned by Labours leader in the European parliament and other grandees that the party will be deserted by millions of anti-Brexit voters if it fails to clearly back a second referendum in its manifesto for next months EU elections. The message from Richard Corbett, who leads Labours 20 MEPs, comes amid growing fears at the top of the party that it could lose a generation of young, pro-EU voters if it does not guarantee another public vote. That age group, as well as many other Remainers, MPs say, could turn instead to unambiguously anti-Brexit parties, including the fledgling independent group …

A Woman Is Getting Dragged For Opening A ‘Clean’ Chinese Restaurant

This tells us a few things. One, she clearly has not been privileged enough to have Chinese friends invite her over for good home cooked Chinese food, and honestly, we feel for her. Like, she probably has only ever eaten Chinese food when she gets it from a takeout Chinese restaurant when she’s hungover or wants to feel like she’s “cultured.” Two, this woman has not studied abroad, and if she has, then she probably got trashed in public and only hung out with Americans the whole time. Honestly, she probably still wears a sombrero on Cinco de Mayo and we’re embarrassed just thinking about it. View this post on Instagram The other day we received some negative comments on …

Media playback is unsupported on your device Media captionTheresa May: “If we want to get on with leaving, we need to start this process soon.” Theresa May has told MPs it remains her “priority” to deliver Brexit, defending the decision to delay the UK’s exit from the EU. The new deadline of 31 October means the UK is likely to have to hold European Parliament elections in May. The prime minister said that if the deal agreed with the EU was passed, the UK could leave the EU “as soon as possible”. Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn called the latest delay a “diplomatic failure”. The prime minister promised to pursue an “orderly” Brexit, adding that the “whole country” was “frustrated”. What …

Princess Diana’s Butler Weighs In On Rumors Of Royal Feud! – Perez Hilton

With so many Royal rumors flying around, we’re not sure what to believe anymore. At first there was a lot of talk of a feud between Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton. But what if it isn’t the Duchesses at all? Lately we’ve been hearing more and more the division between Prince William and Prince Harry may have nothing to do with their wives — and everything to do with a rift between the brothers themselves. We heard this week about a fiery rumor circulating though British high society about William having an affair with a fellow aristocrat’s wife. Vote: Do YOU Believe The Rumor?? If it’s true Will cheated on Kate — or even true Harry believes the rumor — it would make sense he’s …

Why Meghan may avoid the spotlight and give birth to her royal baby at home

(CNN)Meghan, Duchess of Sussex has made a habit of modernizing Britain’s royal family — but the upcoming birth of her first child is set to overturn today’s norms, harking back instead to the Windsor clan’s past. The private couple will be pleased that some royal birthing traditions have been consigned to history. “It used to be that the prime minister had to sit in on the birth of a royal baby, centuries ago, to verify that the child was in fact the child of the Queen — and not one that had been smuggled in under a blanket,” royal biographer Penny Junor told CNN. There are “traces of that process” in the expectation that royal mothers appear in front of …

US labels elite Iran force a foreign terrorist organization

“This unprecedented step, led by the Department of State, recognizes the reality that Iran is not only a state sponsor of terrorism, but that the IRGC actively participates in, finances and promotes terrorism as a tool of statecraft,” President Donald Trump said in announcing the measure. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said the designation is intended to increase pressure on Iran, isolating it further and diverting some of the financial resources it uses to fund terrorism and militant activity in the Middle East and beyond. But, in addition to the potential for Iranian retaliation, it complicates a delicate balance for U.S. personnel in at least two key countries. The administration went ahead with the designation despite expressions of “serious” concern …

British envoy regrets 1919 colonial massacre of Indians

More than 300 Indians were killed and 1,200 injured during the massacre, which galvanized the national independence movement. British High Commissioner Dominic Asquith says “the revulsion that we felt at the time is still strong today,” as he paid tributes at the Jallianwala Bagh memorial in Amritsar. British Prime Minister Theresa May on Wednesday called the killings a “shameful scar” in British-Indian history but stopped short of formally apologizing. Two thirds of ice in the Alps will melt by 2100 due to climate change, scientists warn

Even if carbon emissions dropped all the way to zero by 2050, researchers still think it would be too late to save the glaciers and estimate that two-thirds of the ice will still have melted by 2100. ETH Zurich in Switzerland senior researcher Matthias Huss said: “In the pessimistic case, the Alps will be mostly ice-free by 2100, with only isolated ice patches remaining at …

A topless selfie cost a middle school teacher her job. She’s fighting back citing gender discrimination.

Lauren Miranda, a middle school math teacher, was fired after a shirtless photo she sent to her boyfriend back in 2016 ended up in her student’s hands. Miranda didn’t choose to send the photos to her students — or anyone other than her boyfriend at the time. It’s quite baffling that the school that employed her felt justified in ending her employment for their distribution. But the case goes deeper than that. Miranda feels the consequence she endured has more to do with gender discrimination. She believes if she were a man, her job wouldn’t have been in jeopardy. That’s why she’s refusing to walk away without a fight. In addition to a $3 million gender discrimination suit — think …
