(CNN)Roger Stone formally apologized Monday for his controversial Instagram posts about federal district court Judge Amy Berman Jackson in a letter filed with the court. The photo appears to come from a conspiracy website that features pictures of others, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Democratic Rep. Adam Schiff against the same background. Stone told CNN a “volunteer” who works on his social media posted the initial Instagram post and the photo was “random,” and not “meant anyway to threaten the judge.” Stone says he “ordered it taken down because it was open to misinterpretation.” Stone wrote in the caption of the second post that his upcoming trial before the judge is a “show trial,” and accused special …

Did corruption, sexism and racism play a part in ’17 dam crisis? A judge will hear arguments today.

(CNN)Two years after 200,000 people evacuated as the nation’s tallest dam threatened to spill over, a judge will hear arguments Friday about whether accusations of corruption, sexism and racism at the California Department of Water Resources played a part in it all. What actually happened The tallest dam in the nation sent the town of Oroville into crisis when powerful storms across California caused Lake Oroville’s levels to rise to the top in February 2017. The water could not be drained fast enough, and the main spillway had developed a hole the size of a football field and 40 feet deep due to erosion. For the first time in the nearly 50 years since it was built, water was diverted …

The Best Bachelor Recap Youll Ever Read: Season 23, Week 6 Betches

BachelorIf you’ll recall, when last we left off Onyeka and Nicole were in the middle of World War III, despite the fact that their entire reason for being in each other’s lives was sitting right next to them. Colton’s expression throughout that fight was the same look my dad used to wear when he was trying to reason with me and my sister during a fight over who stole whose Delia’s top and had the audacity to wear it on school picture day (she did). Colton stormed off in a fit of rage (not unlike my dad) to go cry on a sand dune about how some of the women—GASP—might actually be there for fame and not love. The Rose …

PM sticks to Brexit strategy amid Tory row

‘Tory truce’ breaks down over Brexit vote Why has Theresa May lost again on Brexit? Brexit motion: How did my MP vote? Mrs May is trying to renegotiate the Irish “backstop” after MPs voted to replace it with “alternative arrangements” earlier this month. Some MPs fear the backstop – the insurance policy to prevent the return of customs checks on the Irish border – will see the UK tied to EU customs rules in the long-term. Thursday’s government motion called for MPs to back its renegotiating strategy, but ERG members believed it also meant endorsing calls to rule out a no-deal Brexit. They say the option of leaving the EU without a formal deal offers essential “negotiating leverage” in Brussels. …

Will universities go bust if fees are cut?

Are universities really in financial difficulty? What makes universities really nervous is that a reduction in fees will not be replaced by direct funding from the government. Even if funding is promised, it will make universities dependent on the goodwill of politicians, competing with other spending pressures, such as health and schools. Source: Higher Education Statistics Agency There are a finite number of students – and if some universities take an ever-rising number, others will be left starved of fee income. Sir Anthony attacks a “greedy cohort” for threatening the higher education “eco-system”. Figures from the Higher Education Statistics Agency show some universities have piled on extra students, while others have shrunk. Universities with decreasing undergraduate student numbers between 2007-08 …
