Image caption Tony and Jennifer Holdcroft, from Stoke, were unimpressed with Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s criticism of Mr Trump Mr Holdcroft added: “At the end of the day, why shouldn’t he come? Sephora Won’t Solve Racism In An Hour, Obviously.

The makeup giant shut down stores across the U.S. for an hour so its 16,000 employees could attend an “inclusivity workshop.” SZA tweeted about being racially profiled at a Sephora outlet in Calabasas, California. An employee called security on the R&B artist while she was trying to buy makeup from fellow singer Rhianna’s popular brand. “Can a bitch cop her fenty in peace er whut?” The retail chain also faced accusations of racism in 2017 when a video of black customers accusing a white saleswoman of racial profiling went viral. In a 2018 HuffPost article titled “Meek Mills said last month that he was turned away from a hotel simply because he is black. Sephora wouldn’t provide much detail about its one-hour training session. …

Marcia Cross’ personal revelation was a generous act

(CNN)Nearly a year after Desperate Housewives actress Marcia Cross disclosed that she’d undergone treatment for anal cancer, she has revealed that the disease was likely caused by the same strain of human papillomavirus — or HPV — that led to her husband’s throat cancer. Indeed, Cross confronted the discomfort head-on in a Wednesday interview with CBS’s Dr. Jon LaPook, where she made her revelation. Viewers were warned that some words during the interview might make people uncomfortable. “I know that there are people who are ashamed,” she told LaPook. “You have cancer. Do you have to then also feel ashamed like you did something bad because it took up residence in your anus?” Cross told LaPook she has fully embraced …

Democrats look at packing the Supreme Court to pack the vote

Washington (CNN)Republicans have been successfully leveraging the Supreme Court balance of power as a major campaign issue to ignite their base since the 1980s. For Democrats, the 2020 election may mark the first in modern times that they unite around the high court as a driving force in a presidential election. Also drawing Democratic attention to who sits in the nine black leather chairs at the high court has been the recent enactment in states of new abortion bans. The fate of those restrictions would eventually be decided by the Supreme Court, now featuring four liberals and, with Brett Kavanaugh replacing the retired Anthony Kennedy last year, five solid conservatives. “Everyone’s been worried about ‘Will the Supreme Court overturn Roe …

Missouri Abortion Clinic Allowed To Remain Open For Now, Judge Rules

Judge Michael Stelzer, a circuit court judge in St. Louis, issued a temporary restraining order, blocking Missouri from revoking Planned Parenthood’s operating license until another hearing takes place, which is currently “Today is a victory for women across Missouri, but this fight is far from over,” said Planned Parenthood President and CEO Leana Wen. “We have seen just how vulnerable access to abortion care is here ― and in the rest of the country. We are glad that the governor has been prevented from putting women’s health and lives in danger ― for now ― and call on him to stop this egregious politicalization of public health in an attempt to ban all safe, legal abortion care in the state.” …

More prisoners allowed out for day jobs

Release on temporary licence (ROTL) allows prisoners to spend time in the community for short periods, normally towards the end of their sentence. Last year, 7,700 inmates were able to work outside prison or stay out overnight; under the new measures, it’s expected that number will increase by several hundred. Under the new rules, inmates in open or women’s prisons are eligible to undertake paid work immediately after they have passed a “rigorous” risk assessment – previously this was only allowed if the prisoner was within 12 months of release. Additionally, a restriction on ROTL in the first three months after transferring to open conditions will be lifted and overnight leave can now be considered at an earlier stage. The …

‘There’s nothing to stop me working’

Rest Less founder Stuart Lewis said working on past retirement age was growing in popularity for both men and women. “Work patterns are changing – gone are the days of working hard five days a week for four and a half decades before suddenly stopping – and retiring ‘cold turkey’”. In the UK, men and women currently qualify for their state pensions at 65, with plans for the age to increase to 66 by October 2020 and 67 by 2028. ‘I want to keep working’ Mr Irving works full time, but he wants to cut down his hours, something which is not possible in his current role. Neanderthals may have been driven to extinction by a tiny drop in fertility rates

Scientists have long debated whether the dispersal of modern humans across the globe helped kill off Neanderthals, either directly through conflict or indirectly through the spread of disease. “The disappearance of the Neanderthal population is an exciting subject — imagine a human group that has lived for thousands of years and is very well-adapted to its environment, and then disappears,” study senior author Silvana Condemi, a paleoanthropologist at Aix-Marseille University in Marseille, France, told Live Science. “For a long time, it was thought that Homo sapiens had simply killed the Neanderthals. Today, thanks to the results of genetic analysis, we know that the encounters between Neanderthals and sapiens were not always so cruel, and that interbreeding took place — even …

A Budding Movement Is Helping Progressive Asian American Christians Feel Less Lonely

“Having a place where all of the things that made me weird in the rest of my life were normal was completely life-changing,” Lin recalled. Like many progressive Asian American Christians today, Lin felt she was being forced to choose between theology and community. This quandary swirled through her head in late 2016, as she observed the presidential election and the betrayal that many Asian American evangelicals felt as they watched their white co-religionists vote in droves for Donald Trump. She wondered if there were others like her, people who wanted a space where they could be progressive, Asian American, and Christian. “I know you’re out there, and I wish we all could meet somehow,” Lin wrote in an article published on …

Who protects democracy when democrats won’t?

(CNN)The trouble with democracy is that it works. Generally people get what they want. Democracy relies on trust and everyone playing by the same rules, not a disposable concept, to be discarded once it becomes inconvenient. This week Donald Trump suggested he might overturn the US constitution’s two-term limit for presidents “if things keep going like they’re going — we’ll go and we’ll do what we have to do. We’ll do a three and a four and a five.” Most likely he was joking, but US Democrats are raising concerns about Trump’s resistance to democracy’s finer points, specifically his job as president to work with politicians who don’t share his views. His staged tantrum, abruptly ending a meeting with House …

At one point, Samson said he heard the victims saying “some funny s—” when he was on the floor of the sanctuary after being shot during a tussle with a churchgoer. Defense attorney Jennifer Lynn Thompson had argued for …
